In Tahkoluoto, the berths of the liquid bulk port will have shore power for ships.
The use of shore power is possible in Tahkoluoto at berths 29 and 30 during 2026. The construction will start in October 2024. In the same connection with shore electricity, a solar power plant will be built on the background field of berth 29. The solar power plant’s annual production estimate is approximately 860 megawatt hours. A separate project will also be launched to investigate the battery storage of solar electricity. In addition to shipping traffic, efforts are being made to find other uses for the electricity produced by the solar power plant in the port area.
Facts!
The budget of the project that received EU support is around 3.4 million euros and its maximum grant is around 1 million euros.
The goal of the project is:
Reducing emissions and noise from ships and port operations.
Increasing the use of renewable energy and energy self-sufficiency.
EU project duration 04/2024–08/2026.
A solar panel field will also be built at the same time, with a theoretical capacity of one megawatt DC and 660 kW AC. Annual production estimate of 860 megawatt hours.
Adde Oy and Elvera Oy are involved in implementing the solar power plant project.

Rough situational information about the project:
Construction has started in October 2024.
The shore power readiness will be completed by the end of August 2026.
In addition to shore-based electricity, the chemical port’s electricity network is being developed to meet modern needs.
The solar panel field will be mechanically completed in November 2025.
Electrical work on the solar panel field will begin in spring 2026.
